Question by Mark12345: Does Sauna after a workout help build up your muscles?
There’s a sauna at my gym. I heard that going into the sauna after a workout in the gym helps build up you muscles. Is it true or is it just good for cleansing your pores and body?

My primary goal is not just to bulk up, but to get a good athletic body with visible muscles. The sauna takes up some time however and I feel too relaxed and sleepy after the sauna. So, should I go into the sauna after a workout?

Nope, it does not do a thing for your muscles. The dry heat of a sauna or wet heat of a steam room only serve to relax you and make your skin healthier. Steam rooms also have the added benefit of helping your lungs. Neither have anything, at all, whatsoever to do with muscle hypertrophy or fat loss.

Question by Doug D: What good does a sauna or whrilpool hot tub offer after a workout?
I workout at a gym about three times a week, both on cycle and free-weight. After a workout, I spend some time in the whirlpool hot tub — because it feels good. The gym also has a dry and wet sauna. Besides feeling good, do these offer any benefits?

Recent research done in Japan performed a study in mice. The mice were placed on a wheel and set to exercise at a lab-controlled time and intensity. Half of them were left to recover normally, and the other half were placed in a warm sauna-like environment. The mice who were placed in the warm environment had an average size increase of 30% in their calf muscle over the mice that were not allowed to rest in the heat post-workout. The reason for this was the fact that the heat triggers the body to release specific proteins that are ideal for recovery and building muscle. Since the recovery is much improved, the tightness that is normally experience after a workout is relieved and people don’t feel as sore the next day.

Just wondering if I should hit up the sauna after a workout or not. I see some people at my gym going there after a workout but am not sure of the benefits (if any) there are from using it. Comments?

After a workout, do I shower first, use the sauna, and then rinse off., or do I use the sauna before showering alltogether?

I need to lose a lot of weight, and I want to use a sauna suit to kick things off, but I have read that the weight comes back as soon as you drink water or any other type of liquid. What’s the point then? Is this true? Or would I be ok if all I drank was water during the use of the suit and after my workout?

I like to workout a lot and I also like to go into the sauna for awhile. I have plenty of water whenever I go in and I occasionally go out to take an ice cold shower then go back into the sauna. If I’m in there for over an hour, could that be harmfil to my body or my muscles at all? I workout when I’m in the sauna too like pushups, situps. I also have a bunch of oils to put in the sauna rocks if that helps at all.
Thank you.

i’ve been told that going to the sauna and burning off your fat is the best way to loose weight. because if i just workout at the gym i gain muscle and become bulky instead of lean. so i was wondering if that is true. should i stick to going to sauna before working out..or just work out to loose weight?
