I know it’s mostly just sitting in the sauna but does all the sweat mean any calories are being lost? I take 5lbs weights in there to work my arms because I feel silly just sitting there.

If someone wasn’t eating or drinking for a few days, wouldn’t going into a sauna just make the person get severely dehydrated faster? because they are losing water through sweat?

I was at the 24-hr fitness gym and I wasn’t allowed to wear shoes inside the sauna room because the employee told me it was against the rules and it’s a health risk. I wonder if he was messing with me or if that’s actually true. Strange, you’re allowed to wear sandals inside the sauna, just no shoes. Does that make any sense? They said you can also go barefoot; wouldn’t that be the biggest health risk of all with such a dirty sweat-filled floor?

I’ve heard this discussion for years. I’m currently taking an AP physics course and we’ve learned how your body burns calories in order to keep your body temperature normal. And this processes causes sweat, which is the water your body uses to burn that energy which evaporates and then condenses on the outside of your skin. Therefore technically, being in a sauna will burn calories since your body needs burn energy to cool you down. How come people insist that the weight you lose is just "water weight". Your body had to get the energy from some where.

Besides sweat? When I’m working out it listen to music and read, but i can’t do that in the sauna can I? What can I do to pass the time? Oh yeah, also, what does a sauna do for you? Do you lose weight? I heard it helps with clear skin.
